Penzance Business Network
Business Network's work is done
The Penzance Business Network is to close, and its members are being encouraged to join the new Penzance Seafront Forum and the Chamber of Commerce. Chairman Paul Newport is clear, "The climate of public debate in Penzance is changing, and for the better. As a result the board has decided that the role played by Penzance Business Network is no longer needed, and it will close. It was originally set up to develop an alternative harbour plan when it looked like the Penzance to Isles of Scilly link could go to Falmouth.
In the last few months members of the Network have been liaising with the Chamber of Commerce and other key organisations in the town and as a result these bodies have all lent their support to the Penzance Seafront Forum, a community planning forum that is committed to local community and business engagement, and best practice consultation on planning and development matters. It is determined to ensure that this will make regeneration and planning decisions smoother in the harbour and seafront area, and make the very best of the coastal assets of the town. The Forum's objectives are supported by the Town Council and its meetings are open to all."
Mr Newport added that Penzance is now preparing for November's new planning system "The birth of the Forum is at just the right time to work in the new 'Localism' planning system starting in November, putting Penzance in a strong position. The Forum will become a stakeholder involved in harbour and seafront planning decisions, working as a partner with the Town Council.
We would like to thank all those who contributed time and energy to the Network's projects, and we look forward to seeing you at forthcoming community events.
We recommend that our Network members join the Chamber of Commerce for business representation and, if their interest is in the regeneration of the town, get involved with the Seafront Planning Forum, who need the support of capable people at this early stage.
