Penzance Pet suffers in Guernsey

During last week's storm a little bit of Penzance history was damaged far away, across the Channel, in Guernsey. A Penzance pilchard boat, around 100 years old, was smashed against the Castle Emplacement in Guernsey's St Peter Port harbour and as a result the boat might be lost forever.

The 60ft vessel, the "Pet", still bearing its Penzance registration number PZ 211, sank as a result.

Even though badly damaged restoration of this fine historic boat is being considered. At the moment it has been pulled up onto the foreshore in nearby Havelet Bay, and it is a sorry sight.
